On a whim today I decided I could no longer bear to carry around my stringy tresses. I was on a mission to find someone to cut it before I felt compelled to attack it myself with the nail scissors. Why this urge came upon me who can say, perhaps the heat of summer, the discovery of 2 free hours in the day or a subliminal quest for change.
Not so long ago I would only allow a certain salon with sweet smelling products to approach my crowning glory. Those days are long gone as I am no longer that fussy as accessibility limits me. I stopped at the 1st hairdressers I came to and for some strange reason they were not busy. (should have taken this as an omen and wised up straight away.) Every sensible woman knows ( except me) there are unwritten rules to trying out a new hairdo.
1.It should not be on a whim
2.A familiar stylist not a never before seen stylist is a must.
3.Never ever 2 days before a party or big event.
4.The stylist must speak the same language as you.
So throwing caution to the wind I entered the salon and gave the bleached, blonde, dude carte blanche to revamp my coiffure.
With a bad rendition of Abba songs being piped through the salon and the hair dryer ringing in my ear I only heard half of his descriptive plans for my "new do". I thought I heard modern, fresh and easy to style but it could easily have been the lyrics to Mamma Mia with the chorus stating "Guess I've been broken hearted blue since the day we parted"( another omen)
It could have ended badly but it didn't. I quite like it but then I still had to face the judge and jury.
Comments were
"Oh you look different, Wow did you cut your hair?"
" You look like Wilhelmina Slater" Ref Ugly Betty if you are not a fan.(No I am not an evil tanned, skinny, predatory, scheming witch, well not today anyway.) Mother pulls face and daughter says I meant that it is stylish and fashionable.
" That's quite sexy oh am I allowed to say that in front of the kids?" (no prizes for guessing for who said that).
So tomorrow when I try to style it myself it may be back to the same old flop of hair but it was good while it lasted!
