This appears to be the season for parties in Lima. Birthdays, leaving( school ends June 27th) and dinner and tea parties. Chica 2 and chica 3 have had their birthday celebrations this past week one early and the other late. I used to take great delight in preparing for them; birthdays were very often a week long celebration with a variety of friends, cakes and locations. This past year or so I approach them with dread and want the whole thing over and done with asap. Could it be I have become jaded or that the magic and excitement has gone now they are no longer content with Barbie and bright pink fairy cakes. Never thought I would say I am little sad to see the back of Tropical Ken and Malibu Barbie but some how they added to the festivness of the day. I was non-plussed by the request for Banoffi pie instead of a cake. Not so long ago I would have been up until mid-night icing a grand ball dress for Barbie and dashing around to find the perfect party bags to match the napkins.
Still tomorrow night I have dinner guests and perhaps they will appreciate the effort made to match the dinner menu and napkins.
A recent Tea Party we attended was a fund raiser with a fashion show and had the most delicious nibbles and a tasty mail model that the girls managed to secure a lot of photos of. The icing on the cake was my winning two raffle prizes one of which is a free stay at a very plush hotel which I have already booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
I am off to read Kitchen Confidential( Adventures in the culinary Underbelly) any one read it?

It's funny, but I've been feeling exactly the same way about birthday parties for chicas!! I just don't have the energy for them anymore.
My oldest daughter wants to have a mere 14 of her "closest" friends over for a sleepover . . . and I just don't think our house is big enough for that many 14 year old girls. I keep trying to persuade her that the "Jonas Brothers" concert was supposed to be her birthday treat. She seems to think that birthday is an elastic concept that can stretch to hold anything she wants.
Lucky you winning the raffle!
I haven't read "Kitchen Confidential" . . . but I have several good foodie memoirs in my reading queue at the moment. Do report back if this should become a must-read as well.
