" I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as soon as I could"
Not sure if the wording is exactly right but the sentiment is there.
The city of Houston lacks any great architectural detail like European cities but it builds amazing skyscrapers and homes in all price ranges.
The I-10 has 5 lanes going in each direction, maybe more with the HOV. Traffic is heavy but moving.
It is flat and beastly hot in the summer but nothing can beat a Texas winter day temperature around 60 with blue sky and sunshine.
Downtown has been revitalized over the past years it went from Hobo hangout to happening hangout with bars/theatres/restaurants/clubs/hotels.
Cycle and running tracks along the bayou if you don't mind mozzies and roller bladers.
Drive thru banks/cleaners/pharmacies and Starbucks on most blocks. I have mixed feelings as to the benefits of these. Only when you have a sick child, it is raining cats and dogs and there are flash flood warnings do you truly appreciate these conveniences.
but most important of all to me it's where I ........
and last but by no means least I met the dearest of friends, had the best of times with them and made so many memories....... Not all are still in Texas but they are a big part of my life.
I had to spend a few weeks there recently to take care of a foot problem. I don't know many folks who could bear a house guest that long; loan out there family car; drive a friend to Dr appts and wait around; set an extra plate for dinner with only an hours notice; got to the movies every time I suggested it; sound so happy to see me when I turned up out of the blue nor make me feel so utterly at home and as if I had never left.
Shout out to all my Texas Pals I had the best of times and I'll be back soon.

Texas is a friendly place, that's for sure. I'm glad that you had such a wonderful homecoming there.
