Gastronamia

Having a newly renovated kitchen has inspired me to try out new recipes and get in some practice for my Pasteleria course which started last week. I feel quite the proffesional with granite worktops, untensils standing to attention in stainless steel pots and my pastry table just waiting for a nice short crust to be thrown upon it. The chicas have come home eagerly each day to see what new goodies will be waiting for them. My biggest success was pannacotta which I had to adapt slightly but it was consummed with great gusto. Check the BBC out for a good recipe http://www.bbc.co.uk/food
Most of the ingredients I need for recipes are hard to find here so substitutes must be made. Some are more succesful than others, still this is a sign of a good chef( so I am told by my tutor) one that is not afraid to experiment. Just wish it didn't mean wasting so many pounds of flour, sugar and butter!
Well off to whip up a cake and file some recip cards. Well what else is one to do on a foggy, misty Sunday afternoon..

We've been eating our way through France for several weeks now . . . sorry that I've been a stranger. I'm looking forward to your adventures in pastry! Every time I visit Newbury I think that it could really benefit from a good bakery.
